Environmental, public health, and anti-abortion activists called on Pennsylvania regulators to close loopholes in the rules limiting methane and other pollution from oil and gas drilling, during a public comment period that ended Monday, according to reports.

Of the approximately 30,000 comments the Department of Environmental Protection received, more than 28,000 were filed by the anti-abortion Evangelical Environmental Network in support of stronger limits on methane and volatile organic compound pollution because those pollutants harm human, and especially fetal, health. Earlier this month, a coalition of 50 institutional investors that manage a combined nearly $4 trillion in assets also backed stronger limits on methane emissions from oil and gas extraction.
