Trump’s pandemic poll numbers are so terrible, they’re lower than every Democratic governor

Trump thinks he is getting a positive response for his handling of the pandemic, but Americans do not seem to agree.

According to a SurveyMonkey poll shared by The Washington Post, 49 out of the 50 state governors have higher coronavirus response approval ratings than the President. Trump’s approval rating sits at 47% on the  SurveyMonkey poll. The only governor to fare worse is Georgia’s Brian Kemp (R), who is sitting at 39% approval.

This new data seems to contradict Trump’s claim that governors “have gotten those numbers” because of the help received by “me and the Federal Governments.” In fact, all of the Democratic governors — including those that Trump criticized  —are faring much better than him in the court of public opinion.

Governor Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) has a 75% approval rating, and the pandemic poll numbers show Governor Andy Beshear (D-KY) has a 73% approval rating. Michigan’s Governor Gretchen Whitmer is also beating out Trump at 62%.

Interestingly, the top three spots belong to moderate Republicans: Maryland’s Larry Hogan (85%), Vermont’s Phil Scott (82%), and Massachusetts’s Charlie Baker (82%). Hogan has criticized Trump’s response to the pandemic, especially the President’s comments about using disinfectants. Incidentally, all three of these Republican governors were in favor of the impeachment trial.

The governors at the bottom of the pandemic poll numbers included those that, like Trump, pushed for aggressive reopening strategies. Governor Kemp is joined at the bottom by Florida’s Ron DeSantis (58%) and Texas Governor Greg Abbot (58%).
