The Golfer-in-Chief will do anything to distract people from the impeachment hearings.
His latest strategy is to stage photo ops making it appear as if he is working hard, when in fact he spends more time tweeting eating and golfing then actually doing his job. Indeed Trump has played golf during hurricanes and military attacks.
But he told a Florida rally crowd on November 26, “I’m working my ass off.” Trump briefly traveled to Afghanistan on Thanksgiving and served turkey to the troops—while mostly just bragging to the troops about how great he is.
He also met with former Clinton counselor Mark Penn, according to the Washington Post. President Clinton survived impeachment through the booming economy and the appearance of working hard. Trump has been working hard for those photo opportunities.
But on November 29, the president went on a golf outing, again. Indeed Trump Golf Count says he has has visited golf clubs (mostly his own) more than 200 times since becoming President, at a cost to taxpayers of more than $100 million!
Trump has a history of golfing his way through more important events. In October, when Trump withdrew forces from Northern Syria, Turkey began advancing on the country. The country even freed ISIS prisoners. While this news broke, Trump golfed.
Trump infamously was golfing as Hurricane Dorian took aim at Florida.
“We’re doing things that no president has ever done before, and you’ve got to be very, very happy,” the president told the Florida rally. “The failed Washington establishment is trying to stop me because I’m fighting for you and because we’re winning. It’s very simple.”
But Trump’s approval rating has never been able to breach 50 percent. According to FiveThirtyEight, his approval rating is currently at 41.7 percent.
A Newsweek story published on November 28 reported that the president also spent Thanksgiving Eve golfing. The president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., claimed that this was “fake news” in a tweet, because on the day of publication, Trump was in Afghanistan.
