Big donors are warming up to helping with climate crisis

Two news outlets will host climate change debates

Two big climate-related donations made in recent weeks may signal a shift in how philanthropists are thinking about funding climate change, NPR reports.

A $750 million gift for climate research was awarded to the California Institute of Technology, the second-largest donation ever given to an American university. Plus, a $300 million pledge from the Gates Foundation for research into food and climate show that philanthropists are beginning to overcome concerns about the issue being politicized, which climate finance experts tell NPR previously caused hesitation from donors.
