130 Belfast workers seized control of the Belfast shipyard that built the Titanic in 1909. It’s already been two weeks. They refuse to leave until the docks are used to produce renewable energy.
The shipyard—once an icon of industrial power with over 30,000 laborers—is set to close. Its demise would end centuries of shipbuilding in Belfast.
The workers are demanding that British PM Boris Johnson nationalize the shipyards and use them to create thousands of jobs in the transition to clean energy.
