An act of kindness for a hungry child has led to a lifelong bond between two people who may never have met.
Laura Schroff and Maurice Mazyck met on the streets of New York City. He was 11, hungry, and asking for money.
She almost walked past him, but then turned around because his words, “Excuse me, lady, do you have any spare change? I’m hungry,” tugged at her heart strings.
She offered to take him to lunch instead of simply giving him money.
That single act and the connections that followed have led to a strong friendship between the two. Their story is detailed both on “Today” and in Schroff’s book “An Invisible Thread.”
