While videos like this Bill Hader interview are an entertaining mind-trip, they are also more than a little bit scary.
Watch as Hader does impressions and convincingly turns into Tom Cruise and Seth Rogan:
The shifts are so seamless and subtle your brain barely registers them at first which is what makes the video so fun and cool.
Yet, it is very easy to see how this technology could readily be used for more nefarious purposes. Especially as the software needed to create these types of videos becomes less and less expensive.
A deepfake subreddit was already shut down on Reddit due to people creating fake porn videos where the actors had been faceswapped to actresses Scarlett Johansson or Gal Gadot. There was also worry that people would make “revenge porn” videos as a way to blackmail their exes.
While fake porn videos are, of course, embarrassing and possibly career-damaging for all involved, there are bigger concerns. What if these types of videos are used to help commit crimes or create alibis? What if these videos are used as political weapons?
As the technology is perfected, people will no longer be able to trust what they see in any video:
This technology with the ability to plant DNA makes framing a crime quite easy and convincing…. this giving more credence for actual witnesses to incriminate a person

Bro that’s why all this AI stuff is sooo scary. I mean nowadays it’s so easy to manipulate videos & sway the public opinion to incite violence & what not …
10-15 years down the line whatever we see in Black Mirror will be true, not even kidding. Messed up world 😱

Soon, you may have no choice but to “reject the evidence of your eyes.”
