Fredrick Brennan created the site 8chan in 2013, and it was supposed to be the answer to the restrictions of 4chan. He wanted his site to be a place where any legal speech was allowed. It grew in popularity as a place for the people that have been kicked off of other websites due to toxic behavior.
8chan has been the home for “incels” and QAnon supporters as well as anti-feminists. Yet, Brennan is now calling for it to be shut down in the wake of the El Paso shooting because the gunman posted a 4-page message a few moments before entering the Walmart.
“Shut the site down. It’s not doing the world any good. It’s a complete negative to everybody except the users that are there. And you know what? It’s a negative to them, too. They just don’t realize it.”
